Tips for washing fitted sheets

Fresh stains should ideally be washed out immediately. Clear, lukewarm water is sufficient for this.

Stubborn stains can be easily removed if the sheets are soaked in room-temperature water for at least 24 hours before washing. Detergent is not necessary.

Do not wash items with blood stains in hot water: blood contains proteins that denature at high temperatures, binding with the coloring iron oxide (red to reddish-brown) tightly to the fabric.

Washing sheets, but do not spin dry.

Fitted sheets adapt perfectly to mattresses (with toppers) because they are equipped with elastic bands along the edges. These elastics should not be stretched excessively, which is why fitted sheets should not be spun dry.

Otherwise, the elastics can become brittle and tear. Additionally, the intensity of the colors can suffer during spinning, as the high speeds press and crease the sheets against the drum. Cotton and microfibers also tend to pill. Instead, fitted sheets should be hung to dry while still damp, as this helps keep them smooth during drying.

Special conditions for dust mite allergy: Higher washing temperature?

People with dust mite allergies should avoid boil washing; high temperatures are not necessary to remove allergens. What’s important is using a dust mite protective cover between the duvet, pillow, mattress, and bed linens. This tightly woven cover prevents mites and their allergy-causing metabolic products from reaching the bedding.

Do not fully close the zipper when washing

Leave the zipper on your bedding slightly open during washing. This protects the fabric, prevents damage to the zipper, and safeguards your washing machine. This simple care tip ensures longer-lasting bedding and optimal cleaning results.

Always pay attention to care labels.

Our bedding comes with a care label attached inside, so it doesn't disturb your sleep. It’s important to always wash bedding with similar colors to maintain their vibrancy. The label also indicates the appropriate washing cycles; for example, satin sheets should be washed on a gentle cycle. At Schlafgut, we specify whether sheets should be washed at 30, 40, or 60 degrees.

Hang dry fitted sheet

Freshly washed laundry smells irresistible, especially when dried on the line. Jersey and mako satin are only partly suitable for the dryer, so air drying is gentler and more eco-friendly. Our products are Öko-Tex certified and made in an environmentally friendly way. The dryer consumes a lot of electricity and shortens the lifespan of high-quality sheets. That's why we recommend drying fitted sheets on the line or with our Loop sheet hanger.

Folding fitted sheets correctly

A simple trick for folding fitted sheets: Lay the sheet flat on a table and smooth out the corners. Turn the bottom corners inward and tuck them into the top corners. This creates a rectangle that is easy to fold.
